An International Monetary Fund mission began discussions with Ukrainian officials and other stakeholders on Monday to review the country’s economic situation, reform progress and plans for the 2027 state budget.
The IMF mission is headed by Gavin Gray, the Fund’s mission chief for Ukraine. The talks will examine Ukraine’s progress in implementing economic and structural reforms required under its current Extended Fund Facility program.
The discussions follow the completion of the first review of Ukraine’s four-year EFF program in July. The $8.1 billion program is designed to help Ukraine maintain economic stability, manage its debt and strengthen its external financial position while supporting governance and structural reforms.
Following the successful first review, the IMF approved a payment of around $690 million to Ukraine.
The latest negotiations come as Kyiv prepares its 2027 budget while continuing to face substantial wartime expenditures and financing requirements. The Ukrainian government is seeking further international assistance while working to preserve economic stability and meet the conditions of its IMF program.
