Germany has criticized Israel’s decision not to launch a criminal investigation into a 2024 Gaza strike that killed seven workers from the World Central Kitchen.
A spokesperson for Germany’s Foreign Ministry said Berlin regretted the Israeli military’s August 19 announcement that it would not pursue a criminal inquiry into the incident involving employees of the humanitarian organization.
The German government stressed that Israel is expected to meet its responsibilities under international humanitarian law. This includes properly investigating and prosecuting potential violations of international law.
Germany also renewed its call for a transparent and thorough investigation by the relevant Israeli authorities to establish what happened and determine responsibility for the deaths of the aid workers.
The Israeli military had previously announced that it would investigate two suspected war crimes cases in Gaza. At the same time, it decided to close three other major investigations.
Among the cases that were closed was the investigation into the 2024 World Central Kitchen convoy strike, which resulted in the deaths of seven humanitarian workers.
