Lebanon and Israel’s ambassadors to the United States have started discussions in Washington as part of efforts to overcome a stalemate in a US-mediated diplomatic process, according to a Lebanese official source.
The two ambassadors are expected to discuss recent developments in Lebanon and ways to implement a framework agreement reached by the two countries in June.
The meeting comes after a new round of Lebanon-Israel negotiations, which had been planned for this week in Rome, was postponed until October.
Formal diplomatic discussions between Lebanon and Israel began on April 14, 2026, with a historic US-backed meeting held at the US State Department.
The negotiations have focused on several key issues, including maintaining a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, border security arrangements, and matters involving prisoners and missing people.
On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-sponsored framework agreement in Washington. Under the deal, Israeli forces would gradually withdraw from Lebanese territory, while the Lebanese Army would deploy in areas vacated by the Israeli military.
The latest ambassadorial discussions are intended to address outstanding issues and explore mechanisms for putting the framework agreement into practice.
