HAMILTON, Canada – US Vice President JD Vance has indicated that he may have disagreed with President Donald Trump over the war in Iran, suggesting that differences on individual issues do not necessarily undermine their relationship.
Speaking in an interview broadcast Friday on a political talk show hosted by former White House spokesman Sean Spicer, Vance said it was possible to disagree with Trump on a particular issue. He added that he believed he had experienced such a disagreement.
Vance was responding to a question about his relationship with political commentator Tucker Carlson, a former Trump ally who has strongly opposed the Iran war. Carlson has argued that the conflict benefits Israel more than the United States and conflicts with Trump’s pledge to avoid costly foreign military engagements.
Vance acknowledged that Carlson was deeply angered by the war and said they had discussed their differences both privately and publicly. He also expressed understanding of Carlson’s position.
However, Vance urged Carlson not to dismiss Trump’s broader political record because of their disagreement over Iran. He pointed to the administration’s positions on border security and university admissions policies, arguing that these were among the actions Carlson should also consider when evaluating Trump’s presidency.
