Chinese Premier Calls on SCO to Boost Regional Stability and Economic Growth
Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday urged the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to strengthen regional stability, promote shared prosperity and contribute more actively to global development.
Addressing a meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Li warned that global instability and uncertainty were increasing. He stressed the importance of building consensus on fundamental principles, strategic priorities and practical measures to ensure effective implementation.
Li observed that despite competing international perspectives, multipolarity and economic globalization continued to shape global affairs. He encouraged SCO members to adopt a broader international outlook and demonstrate greater responsibility while remaining committed to the organization’s founding principles, known as the Shanghai Spirit.
The Chinese premier called for stronger trade relations among member states, greater regional economic integration and the development of reliable international transport corridors. He also emphasized the need to protect global industrial networks and supply chains against disruptions.
As part of Beijing’s contribution to cooperation within the organization, Li announced that China was willing to sponsor advanced training in the country for 1,000 medical professionals from SCO member states.
He further urged the organization to strengthen its international partnerships and play a more active role in addressing global challenges.
Li emphasized the importance of respecting differences while identifying shared interests, saying that cooperation should focus on common ground and building consensus through dialogue.
Following the meeting, participating leaders signed and issued a joint communiqué and approved several documents aimed at strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, industry and connectivity. They also adopted resolutions concerning the organization’s future development.
Established in 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization currently comprises 10 member states: China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Iran and Belarus.
