The U.S. Embassy in Ottawa has accused Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government of dismissing concerns about possible Canadian interference in the upcoming American midterm elections. The allegations come as U.S. officials raise concerns about foreign influence ahead of the November 3 vote.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the embassy claimed that the Canadian government was downplaying the Trump administration’s concerns. The document highlighted several public remarks by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly and other Canadian officials, presenting them as examples of potential efforts to influence the U.S. elections.
Carney has rejected the allegations, maintaining that Canada is not interfering in American midterm elections. However, U.S. officials have continued to raise the issue in recent weeks, keeping tensions over election-related influence between the two neighbouring countries in the spotlight.
