Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said Thursday that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye is helping strengthen stability both in their region and beyond.
Speaking at a meeting with security officials from member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Baku, Aliyev described relations with Türkiye as particularly significant, pointing to their shared history, cultural links and close ties between their peoples.
He said the relationship between the two countries has become an important factor for regional and wider international stability, particularly amid the current geopolitical challenges.
Aliyev identified the 2021 Shusha Declaration as a major milestone in bilateral relations. Although Azerbaijan and Türkiye had already been allies, the declaration formally established their alliance. He said cooperation and unity between the two countries have continued to grow since its signing.
Aliyev also highlighted the expanding role of the OTS in international affairs. He said member states possess significant economic and geographic potential and are located along important energy, transportation and connectivity routes.
According to Aliyev, energy security, transport connectivity and broader security are closely linked and are expected to remain key issues for OTS members.
He further stressed that stability, peace and security are essential for economic development, arguing that investment, technology and innovation depend on a stable political and economic environment.
Aliyev said OTS countries are also experiencing notable economic growth, despite contrasting economic and geopolitical trends in other parts of the world.
