Belgium Could Experience Its Hottest Summer Since 1833

Summer 2026 May Surpass Belgium Temperature Record

Belgium could experience its hottest summer since official weather records began in 1833, according to meteorologist David Dehenauw.

The country’s average temperature for summer 2026 is expected to reach approximately 20.2 to 20.3 degrees Celsius, which would exceed the previous record.

Dehenauw, from the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium, told VRT NWS that the current summer is likely to break the record established in 2018, when Belgium recorded an average seasonal temperature of 19.8 degrees Celsius.

The Royal Meteorological Institute is expected to publish the official summer temperature figures on September 1. If the current estimates are confirmed, 2026 will become the warmest summer recorded in Belgium since systematic weather observations began.
