Canadian Leaders Join Key International Security Summit

Canada Focuses on Defense and Global Partnerships

Canadian Prime Minister to Attend Munich Security Conference

Strengthening Defense and Global Partnerships

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Munich, Germany, from February 11 to 15, 2026, to participate in the Munich Security Conference, the Prime Minister’s Office announced Tuesday. The visit aims to reinforce Canada’s security and defense partnerships amid growing global uncertainty.

During the conference, Carney will highlight Canada’s efforts to rapidly enhance defense readiness. This includes developing sovereign capabilities to protect the Arctic and supporting NATO’s northern and western flanks.

Focus on Security and Economic Cooperation

Carney emphasized that the international order is changing. “Nostalgia is not a strategy. We must see the world as it is, not wait for a world we wish to be,” he said. He added that Canada is taking a “principled and pragmatic approach” to strengthen national defense, create economic opportunities, and reinforce sovereignty.

The Prime Minister will also meet with business leaders to promote Canada as an attractive destination for global investment, particularly in critical minerals, energy, and advanced technology sectors.

Participation of Foreign Minister

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will join Carney at the conference. She is expected to meet with international counterparts and participate in panels on Arctic security, Ukraine’s sovereignty, and Canada’s defense collaborations.

Key Details of the Conference

The Munich Security Conference, one of the world’s leading forums on international security, will take place from February 13 to 15. Organizers expect over 200 senior government officials from around 120 countries, including more than 60 heads of state and government, over 65 foreign ministers, and more than 30 defense ministers, alongside representatives from over 40 international organizations.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will officially open the three-day event, marking his first appearance in that role.
