In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas, seized marijuana with a street value exceeding $5.1 million. This major interception took place over the weekend, marking a notable victory in the fight against narcotics entering the United States.
Port Director Alberto Flores from the Laredo Port of Entry praised the frontline officers for their “exceptional effort” in thwarting the drug smuggling attempt. The operation led to the discovery of 98 packages containing nearly 2,324 pounds of marijuana in a commercial shipment during a secondary inspection of a vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Mexican citizen, accompanied by another 33-year-old Mexican citizen.
In a separate incident at the Del Rio Port of Entry, CBP officers seized over 12 pounds of heroin valued at approximately $234,000. The narcotics were found hidden within a vehicle during a secondary inspection. Port Director Liliana Flores commended the ongoing efforts of CBP officers in securing the border and safeguarding the community.
Both drug seizures are part of continuous efforts by CBP to combat the flow of illegal narcotics into the United States. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents have taken the suspects into custody and are conducting further investigations into these incidents.–News Desk
