China Condemns Israel’s Attacks, Reaffirms Support for Lebanon’s Sovereignty

China has expressed strong opposition to Israel’s recent military actions in Lebanon, reaffirming its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and national dignity. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed this stance during a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib in New York, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

“China firmly supports Lebanon in safeguarding its sovereignty and opposes indiscriminate attacks against civilians,” Wang said, referencing the ongoing Israeli airstrikes. He also condemned the escalation of violence, particularly the destruction of communication infrastructure across Lebanon, while emphasizing that “violence against violence will not solve the problems in the Middle East.”

Wang Yi further highlighted the broader implications of the Gaza conflict, stating that the violence in Lebanon is a spillover effect of the ongoing war in Gaza. He called for a permanent cease-fire, comprehensive troop withdrawal, and the effective implementation of a two-state solution to address the underlying issues fueling the conflict.

Since Monday, Israeli airstrikes have intensified in southern and eastern Lebanon, with Lebanese health authorities reporting at least 492 fatalities, including 35 children, and 1,645 injuries. The attacks have displaced thousands of civilians as the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel continues to escalate.

China’s statement comes as international concerns grow over the potential for the Gaza conflict to expand into neighboring regions, with calls from the global community for restraint and diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.–News Desk
