Alex Garneau, a well-known athlete, coach and community volunteer in Prince George, British Columbia, has been identified as the woman who died after a plane made an emergency landing on a busy road and struck her vehicle.
The tragic incident occurred when a twin-engine Beech King Air 200 landed on Foothills Boulevard, crossed three lanes of traffic and collided with four vehicles. Garneau was inside one of the vehicles and was killed in the crash. The circumstances surrounding the emergency landing remain under investigation.
Garneau was widely involved in the local community, particularly through sports. She participated as an athlete and coach and regularly volunteered for activities involving her two school-aged children. Her involvement extended far beyond simply attending events, as she helped organize teams and supported numerous activities connected to her children’s sports.
An online fundraiser established to assist her family describes Garneau as a wife, daughter, sister, friend and devoted hockey mother. It portrays her as someone who consistently made others feel welcomed and included.
According to those close to her, Garneau played an important behind-the-scenes role in almost every team and activity involving her children. She drove them to events, organized activities, encouraged the players and helped make sporting opportunities possible.
Her children were described as talented young people and hockey players, and Garneau was deeply invested in their future. She had ambitious hopes for them and looked forward to seeing them achieve their dreams.
A small memorial featuring sunflowers has been established along Foothills Boulevard at the location of the crash, where members of the community have gathered to remember her and pay tribute to a woman remembered for her generosity, commitment and dedication to her family and community.
