EDC Expands Canadian Presence Across Europe

Canada Opens New Trade Offices Europe

.

Export Development Canada (EDC) is expanding its presence in Europe by opening two new offices in France and Sweden this year, while a third office in Poland is planned for 2027.

The expansion comes as economic and trade relations between Canada and the European Union continue to strengthen. EDC said the new offices will help Canadian companies connect more directly with European buyers, investors, financial institutions and strategic business partners.

Growing interest from Canadian exporters in the European market is one of the main reasons behind the expansion. According to EDC’s 2026 Trade Confidence Index, 31% of Canadian exporters plan to enter the European market within the next two years.

The move also supports Prime Minister Mark Carney’s strategy of increasing Canada’s non-US exports as trade tensions with the United States continue. Canada has faced several rounds of US tariffs and restrictions following the breakdown of recent trade negotiations.

EDC estimates that Canadian exports to Europe could reach more than US$104 billion in goods and US$41 billion in services by 2035.

Trade between Canada and the EU has already grown significantly, increasing by 75% in less than a decade since the signing of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
