European Leaders Criticize Musk for ‘Fascist’ Tendencies

European leaders are growing increasingly alarmed over Elon Musk’s provocative rhetoric, with some accusing the tech billionaire of stoking the fires of fascism across the continent. Musk’s inflammatory remarks on his platform X, including attacks on UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, have sparked widespread concern. His controversial comments about historical sex offenses in the UK and his support for the far-right, anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of February’s parliamentary election have been particularly troubling to European leaders.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, and Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto have all voiced their unease, with Sanchez condemning Musk as the leader of an “international reactionary movement” that attacks institutions, spreads hatred, and seeks support from Nazi sympathizers in Germany. Sanchez warned that the resurgence of fascist ideologies was now a real threat in Europe, with far-right parties gaining ground across the continent.

Musk’s comments have led some European governments to push for stronger measures from the European Commission to curb his influence on political discourse. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his disbelief at Musk’s direct involvement in European elections, while Barrot urged the Commission to take firm action against interference. As tensions rise, Europe’s response to Musk’s actions will likely set a precedent for how tech giants influence politics in the future.
