Suspected Female Bomber Kills 12 at Fish Market in Nigeria
A suspected female suicide bomber killed at least 12 people in a crowded fish market in northeastern Nigeria on Saturday, according to local authorities. The attack occurred in the town of Gwoza, located in Borno State, near the border with Cameroon.
Witnesses reported that the woman detonated explosives in the middle of the marketplace during peak hours, causing widespread panic and multiple injuries. Emergency responders confirmed dozens were wounded, with several in critical condition.
No group has claimed responsibility, but officials suspect Boko Haram, the Islamist militant group active in the region for over a decade. The group has a history of using women and girls in suicide bombings.
Boko Haram’s 16-year insurgency has killed tens of thousands and displaced more than 2 million people, according to international aid organizations. The conflict continues to disrupt communities and strain humanitarian resources in northeastern Nigeria and neighboring countries.
Authorities have increased security in the area and launched an investigation into the attack.
