19 Dead, 6 Missing After Quarry Collapse in Indonesia; Police Name Two Suspects

 A rock collapse at a quarry in Cirebon, West Java, has left 19 people dead, eight injured, and six still unaccounted for, local police confirmed on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Friday, prompting a large-scale rescue operation led by Indonesia’s national search and rescue agency, Basarnas. Search efforts continued through the weekend as authorities scoured the debris for any survivors or bodies.

In connection with the disaster, police have identified two individuals as suspects. They face charges under environmental protection laws and are accused of failing to provide adequate safety equipment, as well as negligence that allegedly contributed to the deadly collapse.

Authorities are also assessing the site for potential landslide risks and further environmental violations as part of an ongoing investigation.
