Iran and U.S. Make Limited Progress in Nuclear Talks, Says Oman
MUSCAT — May 23, 2025 — Iran and the United States have made limited progress in recent nuclear negotiations, according to a statement released by Oman, which has been mediating the talks.
The discussions aim to ease tensions over Iran’s advancing nuclear program and U.S. efforts to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. While Washington continues to push for stronger restrictions, Iran seeks relief from harsh economic sanctions—particularly those targeting its vital oil sector.
Oman emphasized that while the dialogue remains ongoing, significant gaps persist between both sides. The talks come amid growing international pressure to restore diplomacy and prevent further destabilization in the Middle East.
Efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), have stalled since the U.S. withdrew from the agreement in 2018 under former President Donald Trump.
