Iranians Commemorate 47th Islamic Revolution with Nationwide Rallies

Mass Celebrations Across Cities

Iranians marked the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on Wednesday with large rallies across Tehran and other cities. Citizens filled the streets to celebrate the establishment of the Islamic Republic and to show support for the government amid one of the country’s most turbulent periods in recent history.

Symbolism and Nationalistic Displays

Demonstrators carried portraits of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the Republic’s founder, alongside Iranian and Palestinian flags. Many chanted slogans such as “Death to America!” and “Death to Israel!”

Rally organizers highlighted anti-American and anti-Israeli sentiment through public displays, including burning and trampling flags. Iranian media showed mock coffins draped with US flags marked with American military commanders’ names and photographs. Additionally, missiles and fragments of downed Israeli drones from last June’s 12-day conflict were prominently displayed.

Public Support Amid Economic Discontent

Although the rallies were organized to demonstrate support for the government, public backing remains divided. In late December, nationwide protests erupted over the collapsing rial and rising inflation. These demonstrations evolved into broader anti-government protests before security forces carried out a deadly crackdown.
