Mayor Brandon Johnson commemorates his first year in office with notable accomplishments, including a landmark $1.25 billion investment in neighborhood development, a significant reduction in violent crime, and substantial support for Chicago’s homeless population.
Key achievements of the Johnson Administration include securing long-term commitments from major corporations like Google and JPMorgan Chase, enacting the most expansive paid leave statute in the country, and eliminating the subminimum wage for tipped workers. The administration also reopened the Department of the Environment and emphasized diversity with a cabinet that is 43% Black and 60% women.
Johnson highlighted the creation of the Office of Community Safety and the Treatment Not Trauma Working Group to address crime’s root causes and expand mental health services. Additionally, youth employment was prioritized, with nearly 25,000 young people employed this summer and almost $80 million invested in youth engagement for the coming year.
As Johnson reflects on these accomplishments, he emphasizes that this year’s progress is just the beginning of his vision for a better, stronger, and safer Chicago.–News Desk PR
