Nairobi Hit Hardest as Flood Death Toll Climbs Across Kenya

Heavy Rains Push Kenya Flood Death Toll to 62

Kenya flood death toll rises to 62 as Nairobi records highest fatalities

Capital reports majority of deaths as heavy rains continue

NAIROBI — Severe flooding across Kenya has claimed at least 62 lives, with the capital Nairobi reporting the highest number of fatalities, according to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.

Officials confirmed that the victims include 46 men, eight women, and eight children. Meanwhile, emergency teams continue rescue efforts and evaluate the impact of flooding in several affected regions.

Nairobi records highest number of deaths

Authorities reported that Nairobi accounts for the largest share of the fatalities. At least 33 people have died in the capital after several days of intense rainfall triggered flash floods.

Floodwaters have submerged roads, homes, and businesses in multiple neighborhoods, disrupting daily life and forcing residents to seek safer locations.

Other regions also report casualties

In addition to Nairobi, several other regions have reported deaths linked to the flooding. Officials said the Eastern Region has recorded 17 fatalities.

Meanwhile, the Rift Valley region has reported seven deaths. Authorities also confirmed two fatalities in the Nyanza region and two along the Kenyan Coast. In addition, the Central Region has recorded one death.

Rescue operations and relief efforts continue

Government agencies and emergency responders remain active in flood-affected areas. They are assisting displaced families and coordinating rescue and relief operations.

Flooding has already affected thousands of households across the country. In many counties, the disaster has damaged homes, roads, and other infrastructure, forcing some residents to relocate to safer areas.

Weather agency warns of more rainfall

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall may continue during the early phase of the country’s long-rains season.

As a result, authorities say flash floods could occur in additional areas, increasing the risk of further damage and displacement in the coming days.
