Iranian President Pezeshkian Calls for Unity on 1979 Revolution Anniversary
National Unity Amid External and Domestic Challenges
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian urged national unity on Tuesday during a large public ceremony in Tehran marking the 47th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He emphasized solidarity in the face of external threats while reiterating that his government is open to negotiations over its nuclear program.
Thousands of citizens gathered in Tehran’s Azadi Square and other cities across Iran to show support for the government, even as the country faces one of its most challenging periods in recent history.
Tensions with the United States
Following recent talks on Iran’s nuclear program, US President Donald Trump has threatened military action if Tehran does not comply with Washington’s demands on nuclear enrichment and ballistic missiles. Reports suggest that Trump is considering sending another aircraft carrier group to the region.
Domestic Challenges
Pezeshkian also acknowledged the country’s internal struggles, including divisions following the deadly crackdown on protests earlier this year, which left thousands of protesters dead, and the ongoing economic crisis.
Speaking to the crowd, Pezeshkian emphasized resilience: “We are standing together … in solidarity in the face of all conspiracies targeting our nation.” He added that the unity and strength of the Iranian people “gives rise to worry within our enemy.”
The president also stated that Iran does not seek to acquire nuclear weapons and apologized for shortcomings in his government’s handling of national issues.
