President Isaac Herzog has expressed heartfelt condolences following the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, honoring his profound spiritual leadership and lifelong commitment to peace and compassion.
In a message addressed to the global Christian community, and particularly Christians in Israel—the Holy Land—President Herzog described Pope Francis as “a man of deep faith and boundless compassion” who dedicated his life to serving the poor and promoting peace worldwide.
He praised the Pope’s significant efforts to build strong ties with the Jewish people and his dedication to interfaith dialogue, which Herzog emphasized as essential for fostering mutual respect and understanding.
“I sincerely hope that his prayers for peace in the Middle East and for the safe return of the hostages will be fulfilled,” President Herzog added.
He concluded his tribute by expressing hope that Pope Francis’ memory will continue to inspire acts of kindness, unity, and hope across the world.
