Romania Approves Donation of Patriot Air-Defense System to Ukraine

The Romanian government has approved the donation of a Patriot air-defense battery to Ukraine, as reported by local media on Monday. Government spokesman Mihai Constantin announced during a news conference that the bill enabling the donation will be quickly forwarded to the parliament for approval.

Once the parliament gives its approval, the battery will be swiftly delivered to Ukraine. This decision follows Romania’s security cooperation agreement with Ukraine, signed in July, and is part of a broader response to Russian aerial attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets and infrastructure.

Romania had initially purchased seven Patriot systems from the U.S. in a $4 billion deal signed in 2017. The donation of one of these systems marks a significant step in Romania’s support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.–News Desk
