At least 10 civilians were killed and several others wounded in an attack reportedly carried out by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in West Kordofan state, a local relief organization said Tuesday.
The Dar Hamar Emergency Committee said RSF fighters attacked Abu Ajal village in the southeastern area of En Nahud. The group reported that more than 10 civilians were killed and many residents were injured.
The relief organization accused the RSF of carrying out violations against civilians during the attack.
Sudan’s army and the RSF have been engaged in a conflict since April 2023, largely over disagreements about integrating the paramilitary group into the regular military. The fighting has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced roughly 13 million people, according to UN and international estimates.
West Kordofan has recently seen increased RSF military activity as government forces move toward En Nahud and Al-Khuway after making advances in neighboring North Kordofan.
On Saturday, the Sudan Doctors Network reported that 25 civilians had been killed in Um Badr in North Kordofan and also blamed the RSF for the deaths.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese army said Friday that it had captured Al-Mazrub in North Kordofan. The army has reported further territorial gains across the state in recent weeks following fighting with the RSF.
