Saudi Arabia reported on Sunday evening that King Fahd International Airport in Dammam had been attacked, following claims by Yemen’s Houthi movement that it had targeted two Saudi airports and several major oil facilities.
The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said authorities were assessing the damage and conducting safety inspections at the airport in coordination with relevant agencies. However, it did not immediately disclose information about possible casualties or the scale of the damage.
The authority said the incident occurred amid continued attacks on civilian aviation infrastructure in the kingdom.
Earlier on Sunday, GACA reported an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The incident reportedly caused injuries, although officials did not provide details about the number of people affected or the seriousness of their injuries.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed responsibility for the attack on Dammam airport during a televised statement. He said the strike had hit its intended target and disrupted air traffic.
Saree also claimed that the group had launched attacks against King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi oil company Aramco’s Shedgum gas processing plant and its Tanajib oil facility in the Eastern Province.
The Houthi spokesperson said the operations were conducted in response to Saudi airstrikes in Yemen. He also warned that further attacks against Saudi Arabia could follow.
