Spanish Government Calls for Palestinian Protection

Spanish Foreign Ministry Denounces Attacks on Palestinians and Mosques

Spain Condemns Escalation of Violence in Occupied West Bank

Official Statement from Madrid

OVIEDO — The Spanish government on Sunday condemned the rising violence in the occupied West Bank, criticizing illegal Israeli settler attacks, killings of civilians, and assaults on mosques. The Foreign Ministry expressed “deep consternation and condemnation” over the deaths of a Palestinian family, including a husband, wife, and their two children, aged five and seven, shot while traveling in a car. Two other children were injured but survived.

Concerns Over Attacks on Worship Sites

Spain voiced strong concern over assaults on places of worship, most recently the attack on the Duma mosque, and called for protection of religious sites and civilians. The ministry highlighted that violence has surged since Feb. 28, when the joint Israeli and US-led operation against Iran began.

Impact of Settler Violence

The Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission reported that Israeli settlers carried out 192 attacks in the first two weeks of the Iran war, killing six Palestinians. Spain noted that “violent settler actions threaten the safety of Palestinians, damage property and livelihoods, and force families to abandon their homes and lands.”

Opposition to Settlement Expansion

Madrid rejected recent Israeli decisions to expand settlements, describing them as a “flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.” The Spanish government also condemned systemic violence against pro-Palestinian activists in Israel.

Call for Accountability and Peace

Spain emphasized that ongoing violence undermines the Gaza peace plan and the two-state solution. The ministry urged Israel to end impunity, ensure accountability, and protect civilians from further harm.
