Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Sunday that Tehran is prepared to pursue both military action and diplomatic negotiations in response to US pressure.
Speaking to parliament, Qalibaf said Iran would continue defending itself with full military strength while also using diplomacy to advance what it considers the rights and interests of the Iranian people. He added that Tehran is neither intimidated nor encouraged by Washington’s actions.
Qalibaf said the US had sent several proposals through mediators after Iran presented a seven-day plan for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. However, he stressed that the waterway would remain closed until Iran’s seven conditions, based on the Islamabad Memorandum agreed in June, are fulfilled.
Iran previously communicated its demands to Washington through Qatari mediators as part of efforts to end the conflict that began on Feb. 28.
Among Tehran’s stated conditions are a comprehensive halt to hostilities across all fronts, the unfreezing of Iranian financial assets and the lifting of the naval blockade on Iranian ports.
