10 Dead Including Suspect in Tumbler Ridge School Shooting, 25 Injured

Deadly Attack Shocks Small British Columbia Community

A mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, left nine people dead and at least 25 others injured on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed that the suspect also died, bringing the total number of deaths to 10.

Police reported that six victims died inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Another victim died while being transported to hospital. Meanwhile, officers discovered two additional bodies inside a nearby home, which investigators believe is connected to the school attack.

Suspect Identified

Investigators found the suspected gunman dead inside the school. Police stated that he died from a self-inflicted injury. Officers believe they have identified the shooter; however, they admitted they may never fully understand the motive behind the attack.

As the investigation continues, officials described the tragedy as one of the deadliest school shootings in Canadian history.

Students Describe Lockdown

During the attack, school staff placed students under lockdown for more than two hours. A Grade 12 student said he and his classmates barricaded themselves behind locked doors while they waited for police.

“It felt like I was somewhere that I had only seen across a TV,” the student said, describing the fear and confusion inside the school.

Community in Mourning

Following the shooting, emergency responders treated at least 25 injured individuals. Authorities have not yet released further details about the victims. However, community leaders expressed grief and pledged support for families affected by the tragedy.
