Trump Endorses Japan’s Takaichi Before Snap Election

Trump Support Signals Closer Ties with Japan’s Leader

Trump Backs Japan’s Takaichi Ahead of Snap Election

Public Endorsement Before Vote

US President Donald Trump has endorsed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi ahead of a snap election scheduled for Sunday.

In a post on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump praised Takaichi as a “strong, powerful, and wise leader” who “truly loves her country.” He added that she would not disappoint the Japanese people.

Unusual Move in Foreign Politics

Although US presidents rarely support candidates in foreign elections, Trump has made similar endorsements in the past. Most recently, he publicly backed Argentina’s President Javier Milei and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

As a result, Trump’s statement has drawn attention both in Japan and internationally, given the sensitive nature of foreign political involvement.

Tokyo Seeks Stability with Washington

Takaichi has actively engaged with Trump as Japan looks to strengthen stability in its relationship with Washington, its closest ally.

This outreach comes amid concerns in Tokyo following the introduction of Trump-era tariffs, which have added strain to trade relations between the two countries.
