KYIV – Ukraine is set to send a delegation to Washington this week to continue negotiations on a comprehensive minerals deal proposed by the United States. Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that the Ukrainian team would focus on aligning project selection, legal frameworks, and long-term investment mechanisms in a bid to move forward with the agreement.
The US administration seeks a significant stake in Ukraine’s future mineral revenues, with President Donald Trump viewing the deal as a means to recover billions of dollars in aid provided to Ukraine during its ongoing conflict with Russia.
While Ukraine remains eager to maintain strong US support, it is cautious about relinquishing control over its mineral wealth. A revised draft, presented by Washington in March, is much broader than the previous version agreed upon by both countries.
Svyrydenko emphasized that the ongoing discussions reflect both nations’ strategic interests and their shared commitment to establishing a transparent and durable partnership. The Ukrainian delegation will include representatives from the economy, foreign affairs, justice, and finance ministries.
