UN Warns Against Airspace Violations
UN official alarmed after Estonia accuses Russia of airspace breach
ANKARA | Sept. 22, 2025 — The United Nations has declared that the violation of sovereign airspace is unacceptable, after Estonia accused Russia of entering its airspace without permission.
Speaking Monday, a UN official voiced alarm over rising regional tensions, stressing that such actions risk further instability in Eastern Europe. The official urged all states to respect international law and avoid provocations that could escalate into conflict.
Estonia said a Russian aircraft recently crossed into its territory without clearance, adding to concerns already raised by NATO allies in the region. Tallinn called on the international community to hold Moscow accountable for repeated airspace violations.
The UN emphasized that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is a core principle of global peace. Officials warned that continued violations would harm efforts to maintain regional stability and trust.
The incident comes amid strained ties between Russia and Western nations, with NATO closely monitoring developments along its eastern borders.
