German police arrested a former US military worker, identified only as Martin D., on Thursday in Frankfurt on suspicion of attempting to provide sensitive information to Chinese intelligence. The arrest followed a warrant issued by the Federal Court of Justice.
Prosecutors said Martin D., a US citizen, is strongly suspected of offering to act as a spy for China. He had worked for the US armed forces in Germany until recently and allegedly contacted Chinese government agencies in 2024, offering to share sensitive US military information. Authorities have not disclosed the specifics of the information, as the investigation is ongoing. Following his arrest, German officials conducted searches at his home, seizing electronic devices and other evidence related to the espionage claims.
