Chicago (WLS) — A teenager was killed, and three others were injured in a West Englewood crash Sunday night, according to Chicago police.
The incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. near a gas station in the 7100 block of South Ashland Avenue. Police reported that a white SUV ran a red light and was struck by a gray SUV, as seen in surveillance footage.
One passenger in the white SUV was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as 17-year-old Dontrell Ferguson by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The driver of the white SUV, a 40-year-old man, was critically injured and hospitalized. The 27-year-old woman driving the gray SUV suffered a concussion and was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in serious condition, along with a 27-year-old male passenger who sustained a hip injury.
A witness described the chaotic scene, noting that none of the gas pumps were struck during the crash. “I heard the impact… and saw the gray car pushing the white car almost into the gas pump,” said Larry, who witnessed the incident. “The airbags deployed, and I was just in shock.”
Police indicated that traffic citations are pending and the Major Accidents unit is investigating the incident.
