Barcelona and Real Madrid legends are set to meet for the first time next month in a charity match in Japan, with the highly anticipated game taking place on December 15 at Tokyo’s Ajinomoto Stadium. The event will feature some of the most iconic players in football history, with the star attraction being Andres Iniesta, who recently retired after a successful career and is beloved in Japan following his five-year stint at Vissel Kobe.
Alongside Iniesta, other notable Barcelona legends taking part include Xavi Hernandez, who was the club’s head coach until recently and is synonymous with Iniesta’s success at Barcelona, as well as Argentine great Javier Mascherano and Mexican star Rafa Marquez, both making their first appearances in the Blaugrana jersey since 2018 and 2010, respectively.
The match will also see the return of other famous players such as Rivaldo, Bojan Krkic, Javier Saviola, Ludovic Giuly, Adriano, and Gaizka Mendieta, among others. This charity game marks the first-ever meeting between the Barcelona and Real Madrid legends in Japan, giving fans the chance to relive the magic of some of the world’s best footballers.
The game is part of the Barca Legends program, established in 2016 to bring together former Barcelona stars in an ongoing initiative to globalize the club’s name. Through these charity matches, Barcelona aims to connect with fans around the world and share its rich history and legacy of iconic players.
