Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has been forced to withdraw from Spain’s squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Switzerland due to injury, the Spanish Football Federation confirmed. The decision followed an evaluation by the Spanish national team’s medical staff based on an injury report provided by FC Barcelona.
Yamal, who sustained a grade 1 syndesmosis injury in his right ankle, is expected to be out for two to three weeks. As a result, Girona FC winger Bryan Gil has been called up to replace him in the squad for the group-stage matches against Denmark in Copenhagen on Friday, November 15, and Switzerland in Tenerife on Monday, November 18.
At just 17 years old, Yamal played a pivotal role in Spain’s victory at the EURO 2024 tournament in July, and his absence is a significant blow to the team as they prepare for these crucial Nations League games.
