International Rescue Teams Build Trust Through Joint Water Rescue Challenge
Rescue personnel from the United States and partner nations joined forces during the International Rescue Symposium’s “Monster Mash” skills competition in Honolulu on July 17, 2026, demonstrating teamwork by swimming together while towing a floating rescue litter.
Unlike traditional competitions, participants were deliberately assigned to multinational teams, encouraging rescuers from different countries to collaborate under realistic conditions. The exercise emphasized communication, coordination, and mutual trust—essential qualities for successful multinational search-and-rescue missions.
By working side by side in demanding aquatic scenarios, the event strengthened operational partnerships and fostered lasting professional relationships among international rescue personnel. The competition highlighted the importance of interoperability and shared expertise, ensuring participating nations are better prepared to respond collectively during future humanitarian assistance and emergency rescue operations.
