Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after she became the longest-serving prime minister in Italy’s history.
In a social media message, Erdogan praised Meloni for reaching the milestone and expressed confidence that relations between Türkiye and Italy would continue to improve. He said he expected cooperation and solidarity between the two countries to become stronger in the future.
Meloni reached 1,413 days in office on Friday, surpassing the previous record held by Silvio Berlusconi’s second government, which lasted 1,412 days. She has also become Italy’s longest-serving prime minister of the postwar era.
Commenting on the achievement, Meloni said she viewed the milestone with gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility. She emphasized that political stability should not simply be considered a record but should enable a country to make plans, take decisions, fulfill commitments and strengthen its international standing.
