Serbian Airlines Gain Kaliningrad Access

Serbia Secures Flights To Kaliningrad

Serbian airlines have been granted permission to operate regular flights to Russia’s Kaliningrad region following an agreement between the aviation authorities of Serbia and Russia. However, Russian officials have not yet announced when the flights will start or which Serbian airlines will provide the service.

Kaliningrad is a Russian exclave located on the Baltic Sea and surrounded by Lithuania and Poland, both NATO members. Its strategic location has made it an important point of security tensions in the Baltic region, especially since 2022.

Serbia has maintained direct air connections with Russia despite the restrictions imposed by both the EU and Russia after 2022. Air Serbia has continued flights between Belgrade and Russian cities, providing an important link between Russia and Europe. Meanwhile, EU airlines remain prohibited from using Russian airspace, while European aviation authorities continue to warn against flying through certain areas of western Russia.
