China’s Wang Yi to Visit Pakistan for Strategic Talks

Top Chinese Diplomat Meets Ishaq Dar in Islamabad

CHINA / PAKISTAN

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Pakistan this week for a three-day tour. He will hold high-level talks with his counterpart Ishaq Dar, according to an official statement on Tuesday. This visit marks the sixth round of the China-Pakistan strategic dialogue in Islamabad. It follows Wang’s two-day trip to India.

This will be Wang’s second visit to Pakistan in three years. China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told reporters, “China and Pakistan are iron-clad and all-weather friends.” She added that the leaders will discuss ways to expand practical cooperation. Wang will also meet Pakistan’s top leadership during his stay.

China and Pakistan have maintained diplomatic ties since 1950. In recent years, China has become a key arms supplier to Pakistan. Bilateral trade reached over $23 billion in 2024. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a $62 billion infrastructure project linking China’s Xinjiang province to Pakistan’s Gwadar port, remains a cornerstone of their partnership.

Ahead of Wang’s visit, Beijing hosted the 10th round of bilateral consultations on arms control, non-proliferation, and disarmament. During the talks, both sides discussed security concerns related to emerging technologies and artificial intelligence. They also explored cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and space.

Wang Yi’s visit highlights the growing strategic and economic ties between China and Pakistan. Moreover, it signals continued collaboration on regional security, infrastructure projects, and technological development.
