Trump Confirms MRI Scan but Withholds Reason for Test
WASHINGTON:
US President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that he underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test during a recent hospital visit but did not reveal the reason behind it.
“I did. I got an MRI. It was perfect,” Trump, 79, told reporters. When asked what was being examined, he replied that the journalist could “ask the doctors.” He added, “The doctors said some of the best, for the age, some of the best reports they’ve ever seen.”
Details of Hospital Visit
A summary released by the White House about Trump’s October 10 visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center stated that the president received “advanced imaging” as part of his ongoing health maintenance plan. However, it did not specify the exact nature of the imaging or the reason for the procedure.
The report, prepared by Trump’s physician Sean Barbarbella, noted that “comprehensive laboratory studies performed in conjunction with the visit were exceptional,” adding that Trump’s metabolic, hematologic, and cardiac parameters remained stable.
Health Concerns and Observations
The visit took place only six months after Trump’s annual physical exam in April, prompting questions about why he returned to the hospital so soon. The trip followed media reports noting bruises on the back of Trump’s hand, which he reportedly tried to cover with makeup. These marks raised public speculation about his health.
In addition, swelling in his legs—also observed by reporters—was attributed to chronic venous insufficiency, a condition where the veins in the legs struggle to return blood effectively to the heart.
Unusual Frequency of Medical Checkups
The White House has not clarified why the president underwent a second hospital visit this year. Typically, US presidents receive only one comprehensive physical examination annually, making this additional visit notable. Trump, at 79, is among the oldest individuals to serve as president, increasing public interest in his medical evaluations.
