Elon Musk predicts AI will drive media creation

Elon Musk Predicts AI Will Produce Most Media by 2026

Musk Shares Vision on AI and Content Creation

Elon Musk recently discussed his outlook for media and entertainment during a nearly two-hour interview on Nikhil Kamath’s YouTube channel, titled “Elon Musk: A Different Conversation w/ Nikhil Kamath.” The conversation touched on work, consciousness, family, and money. When the focus shifted to content creation, Musk predicted that AI will dominate the media landscape in the near future.

He specifically forecasted that by 2026, over 90% of new digital content—including movies, podcasts, and other media—will be generated by artificial intelligence.

AI Capabilities and Future Impact

Musk highlighted that xAI’s upcoming Grok-3 model could create full-length films from simple text prompts, potentially competing with Hollywood studios. He noted that current AI still faces challenges, particularly in maintaining narrative consistency over longer formats.

He identified real-time video generation and video games as areas where AI will have the most significant influence. Musk praised AI tools developed by his company and others, explaining that they can replicate human experiences and capture subtle details convincingly.

Live Events Remain Valuable

Kamath observed that live events are regaining popularity, with audiences seeking authentic human interaction. Musk agreed, suggesting that as digital content becomes more abundant and nearly free, live experiences will become rare and more valuable. He also noted that this trend could create strong investment opportunities in live entertainment.

Industry Pushback

Despite Musk’s optimism, experts have voiced concerns. The Directors Guild of America warned that AI-generated content could threaten 600,000 creative jobs in the U.S., while copyright lawyers highlighted legal issues with training AI on existing films.

Major streaming platforms, including Netflix and Disney, have also stated that they will not accept AI-generated content without human oversight, citing concerns over quality and authenticity.
