Philippines Poland Expand Security And Technology Ties

Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Polish President Karol Nawrocki held talks in Manila on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in defense, trade, technology and several other areas.

According to the Philippine Presidential Communications Office, the leaders discussed cooperation involving defense and security, trade, industry, agriculture, science and technology, information and communications technology, energy, legal matters and people-to-people exchanges.

Nawrocki’s visit marked the first official trip to the Philippines by a Polish president.

Marcos highlighted progress in defense relations between the two countries, including the Philippines’ acquisition of S-70 Black Hawk helicopters. He said both sides intended to expand the work of their Joint Defense Cooperation Committee through joint training and educational initiatives.

The two governments also agreed to deepen agricultural cooperation, including trade, market access, food safety standards, agricultural research and education. They welcomed further collaboration in science, technology and innovation, including space-related technologies.

The countries also signed an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Marcos and Nawrocki exchanged views on regional and international developments, including security issues in the South China Sea and developments affecting Ukraine and Europe. Both leaders reaffirmed their support for international law and peaceful approaches to resolving conflicts.

They also discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Poland and ASEAN, which is currently chaired by the Philippines.

Poland has participated as an observer in the annual Balikatan military exercises between the Philippines and the US since 2025.
