Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense issued two brief emergency warnings in Sharurah governorate, located in the southwestern Najran region, on Thursday, before confirming that the potential threat had ended. However, officials did not reveal what caused the situation.
In separate announcements shared on X, the Civil Defense stated that alerts had been sent to residents through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies. The warnings were intended to notify people about a possible danger in the area.
A few minutes later, authorities confirmed that the situation had returned to normal. Nevertheless, residents were advised to follow official safety instructions and avoid gathering at the location or taking photographs.
Officials provided no further details about the nature or origin of the potential threat.
The alerts were issued amid rising tensions involving Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia. The Houthis have recently intensified their activities, including missile and drone attacks against targets across the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government since March 2015. The conflict began after Houthi forces seized the capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces in September 2014.
