Tehran and Muscat Hold Talks Amid Hormuz Tensions

1. Iran Oman Diplomacy Focuses on Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with his Omani counterpart, Badr Albusaidi, on Thursday morning to discuss the latest regional developments and diplomatic initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

According to the Iranian government, the discussion focused on ongoing diplomatic efforts as tensions continued to rise over the US naval blockade and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Qatar continued its mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran to ease the dispute.

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is a vital international shipping route through which substantial quantities of oil and natural gas from Gulf countries reach global markets.

Iran stated on Monday that it remained in contact with the United States through mediators. Tehran also maintained that reopening the strategic waterway depended on Washington lifting its naval blockade.

The latest diplomatic developments follow military attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. Tehran responded by targeting Israel and US-linked assets across the region before a ceasefire was established in April.

On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding intended to guarantee freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. However, disagreements over maritime security arrangements have prevented the agreement from being implemented.
