U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Jordan on Tuesday, marking the second stop of his regional tour aimed at negotiating a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. During his visit, Blinken is scheduled to meet with King Abdullah II and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, as reported by Anadolu. This follows his previous discussions in Saudi Arabia and precedes an anticipated visit to Israel.
In Riyadh, at the World Economic Forum, Blinken disclosed that Israel had extended a “generous” proposal to Hamas for the release of Israeli captives, a move that might pave the way for a cease-fire. According to Axios, this proposal includes a discussion on restoring a sustainable calm in Gaza following an initial humanitarian release of hostages.
Hamas is expected to respond to Israel’s truce offer later in the week. The ongoing conflict, which escalated following a Hamas attack on October 7, has resulted in severe humanitarian crises in Gaza, with widespread destruction and significant casualties reported by the UN. The International Court of Justice has also intervened, mandating Israel to cease actions classified as genocidal and to ensure the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza’s civilians.–News Desk
