U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge successfully intercepted a significant drug smuggling attempt, seizing $263,500 worth of alleged cocaine concealed within a vehicle. The incident occurred on August 17, 2024, when a grey Honda SUV attempting to enter the United States from Mexico was stopped for further inspection.
The vigilant CBP officers, utilizing non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment, conducted a thorough examination of the vehicle. Their efforts led to the discovery of 13 packages of cocaine, weighing a total of 34.17 pounds (15.50 kg), hidden within the vehicle.
Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, praised the officers’ diligence and the effectiveness of the tools and resources at their disposal. “Our ability to filter out smugglers from legitimate travelers is paramount in securing our border,” Rodriguez stated, highlighting the ongoing commitment to border security.
The narcotics and the vehicle were seized by CBP’s Office of Field Operations (OFO). The driver was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents, who have launched a criminal investigation into the smuggling attempt. This seizure underscores CBP’s ongoing efforts to prevent illegal drugs from entering the United States.–News Desk
