Chicago Police Shoot Suspect After Officer Struck by Truck During Violent Incident

CHICAGO (WLS) – A 28-year-old man, Carlos Sanchez-Roa, is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, after being shot and critically injured by police during a violent confrontation in Chicago on Saturday.

According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), officers responded to reports of gunfire following a large fight outside a business in the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue. Witnesses informed police that shots had been fired, and officers quickly identified a potential suspect entering a red truck near the scene.

When police ordered Sanchez-Roa to exit the vehicle, he allegedly accelerated toward the officers, striking one of them with the truck. In response, officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.

The injured suspect was later found on the ground near the red truck and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. A firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle.

The officer hit by the truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) has launched an investigation into the officer-involved shooting. In accordance with standard procedure, the involved officers have been placed on 30 days of routine administrative duty.
