China Denies US Treasury ‘Breach’ Allegations as False

Beijing has strongly rejected allegations of a cyberattack on the US Treasury, calling the claims “false” and “without evidence.” The response came after a report by The New York Times suggested that a Chinese state-backed hacking group had gained unauthorized access to US Treasury systems, including unclassified documents.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning dismissed the accusations, emphasizing China’s opposition to hacking and the spreading of false political narratives. She further stressed China’s commitment to international cybersecurity cooperation.

The US Treasury had previously informed lawmakers that the breach was likely linked to a Chinese “Advanced Persistent Threat” actor, but insisted there was no ongoing access to their information. The incident follows a series of cyberattacks allegedly linked to China, including one targeting US telecom networks.
