The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Colombia has increased to 294, according to the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).
The agency reported Saturday that six additional deaths had been confirmed since the previous update. It also said that 3,935 people had suffered injuries, while 320 individuals were still listed as missing.
Search and rescue operations are continuing as emergency teams work to locate missing people, treat the injured and evaluate the destruction caused by the earthquake. Authorities are also inspecting damaged infrastructure and determining the most urgent needs of affected communities.
The UNGRD is coordinating the national response and gathering information from local authorities and emergency organizations across the affected areas. Emergency personnel and resources have been deployed to support rescue and relief operations.
Local authorities are assisting residents and coordinating emergency services, while response teams are working to identify communities requiring immediate assistance. Officials have urged residents to follow instructions from emergency agencies and remain cautious while rescue and assessment activities continue.
Authorities cautioned that the current figures are provisional and could change as rescue teams reach more affected areas and verify reports. The UNGRD will continue collecting information and is expected to issue further updates as additional cases are confirmed.
