Deadly Lyon Blaze Sparks Criminal Investigation

A devastating apartment fire in southeastern France has left three people dead and forced dozens of residents to flee their homes, as investigators examine whether the deadly blaze may have been linked to criminal activity.

The fire erupted Monday morning inside a seven-story residential building in Decines, a suburb near Lyon. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and eventually managed to bring the flames under control after a large-scale rescue operation.

Authorities confirmed that three people lost their lives during the tragedy. One of the victims reportedly jumped from an upper floor while attempting to escape the rapidly spreading fire. Fourteen additional residents suffered from smoke inhalation, though officials said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Around 50 residents were evacuated from the building as firefighters battled the blaze and secured the surrounding area. Shock and fear spread throughout the neighborhood as emergency teams worked through the smoke-filled structure searching for survivors.

The Lyon prosecutor’s office announced the launch of a major investigation involving possible charges related to dangerous destruction resulting in death, organized homicide, and participation in criminal activity. Officials have not ruled out the possibility that the fire was intentionally set.

According to local reports, the neighborhood has recently experienced repeated incidents linked to drug trafficking, including intimidation tactics and suspected arson attacks. Investigators are now examining whether the deadly fire may be connected to those ongoing criminal activities.

The incident has reignited concerns over rising urban violence and public safety in certain French neighborhoods, with residents demanding stronger security measures following the fatal disaster.
